Dongfeng Motors' official local distributor Volt Auto unveils the Chinese automaker’s first electric passenger car for the Singapore market.

The Box, badged as the Nammi 01 in its native China, was first launched at the Guangzhou International Motor Show back in November of 2023. It continues the current trend of manufacturers styling their cars with retro-futuristic design cues in mind, with the Box itself looking like an amalgamation of classic shapes.

So box-like it certainly isn't. The car actually looks very cute, and customers can choose from three different exterior and interior colours. To top it all off, the general fit and finish, considering this is their first export model to Singapore, is actually really good as well.

And so too is its spec sheet. Powering the Box is a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor that drives the front wheels. This unit is good for 94 bhp and 160 Nm of torque, which ensures it flies well under the 147 bhp Category A COE limit for EVs.

It is built on what Dongfeng dubs its “Quantum Architecture S3” platform, which will allow the brand to create up to 16 unique configurations from one general chassis. The Box has a 42.3 kWh LFP battery, which is good for a CLTC-tested range of 430 kilometres, and can be charged from 20 – 80% in just 30 minutes when plugged into a DC60 charger.

CLTC test standards have been known to flatter the car's actual capabilities, so expect it to return about 350+ kilometres in the real world. Still, there's little to scoff about, especially when you consider its sub $150,000 price tag!
